General Questions

We specialize in restoring and fabricating a wide range of furniture and architectural elements. Restoration includes antique, mid-century, and designer pieces—such as Baker lounges, Henredon frames, and heirloom dining chairs—handled with precision and respect for their original character. On the custom side, our team builds everything from bespoke furniture frames and upholstered kitchen banquettes to wall panels, bed frames, and full cabinetry systems. Whether you're reviving a legacy piece or designing something entirely new, we tailor every detail to your vision, space, and materials.

Yes. We welcome client-supplied fabrics, leathers, trims, and specialty materials. Whether you're sourcing a designer textile, matching an existing piece, or using a legacy fabric with sentimental value, our team will guide you through compatibility, durability, and application. We’ll inspect the material for quality, confirm yardage requirements, and advise on any reinforcement or backing needed to meet First Class standards. For custom builds—like banquettes, bed frames, or wall panels—we can also integrate client-supplied wood or hardware, provided it meets structural and safety criteria.

Yes. We offer professional pickup and delivery for upholstery, restoration, and custom builds. For clients in the Fort Lee area, pickup and delivery are provided at no additional cost. For locations outside our immediate zone—including NYC, Westchester, Bergen, Rockland, and surrounding areas—a small delivery fee may apply, based on distance and project scope. Our White Glove Delivery includes protective wrapping, in-home placement, and final inspection, ensuring each piece arrives safely and is positioned with care.

Project timelines vary depending on the scope, materials, and current workshop volume. Most standard upholstery jobs—like cushion replacement or chair reupholstery—are completed within 2 to 4 weeks. Restoration projects involving structural repair, refinishing, or specialty materials may take longer, typically 4 to 6 weeks. Custom builds such as banquettes, bed frames, or cabinetry are scheduled based on design complexity and fabrication needs. During your consultation, we’ll provide a clear timeline and keep you updated throughout the process.

Restoration focuses on preserving and reviving the original structure, materials, and character of a piece. This may include frame repair, joint reinforcement, reupholstery, and selective finish correction—especially for antiques or designer furniture where authenticity matters. Refinishing, on the other hand, is a surface-level process that involves stripping, sanding, staining, painting, or sealing to refresh the appearance. It’s ideal for updating color, sheen, or texture without altering the core build. At First Class, we often combine both approaches to ensure each piece is structurally sound and visually timeless.

Yes. We collaborate with interior designers, architects, builders, and commercial clients across hospitality, retail, and residential sectors. Our team delivers high-end, scalable solutions—from custom headboards and branded seating to wall panels, banquettes, and cabinetry. Whether it’s a one-off showpiece or a multi-unit rollout, we tailor every detail to the project’s design intent, timeline, and budget. We also offer material sourcing support, CAD-ready coordination, and direct communication with your design team to ensure seamless execution.

Getting started is simple. You can reach out through our contact form, email us directly at info@firstclassupholstery.com, or call 201-944-2282 to speak with our team. We’ll begin with a consultation—either in person or virtually—where we review your goals, materials, timeline, and budget. From there, we’ll outline a clear scope of work, provide a detailed quote, and schedule your project. Whether it’s a restoration, custom build, or multi-room installation, every First Class project begins with a conversation and ends with craftsmanship.

Every project at First Class Upholstery goes through a multi-step quality control process—from initial intake and material inspection to final detailing and delivery. Our team documents each phase, ensuring consistency whether it’s a single cushion or a full-room installation. Edison oversees frame integrity and structural repairs, while Jesse leads finishing and upholstery detailing. Before delivery, each piece is reviewed for craftsmanship, alignment, and finish quality. We also offer post-installation support and stand behind our work with clear service guarantees.

Pricing depends on several factors: the scope of work, materials selected, structural condition, and design complexity. For upholstery, costs vary based on fabric type, cushion fill, and detailing (e.g., tufting, piping, nailhead trim). Restoration quotes consider frame integrity, finish condition, and any specialty repairs. Custom builds—such as banquettes, bed frames, or cabinetry—are priced according to dimensions, materials, and fabrication time. During your consultation, we’ll provide a clear breakdown and, for foam-based projects, you can use our Foam Cost Calculator to estimate pricing in advance.

Absolutely. Whether you're envisioning a custom banquette, bed frame, wall panel, or cabinetry system, our team will guide you from concept to completion. We begin with a design consultation to understand your space, style, and functional needs. From there, we can work from sketches, reference photos, or even verbal descriptions to develop a tailored solution. Edison oversees structural planning and frame integrity, while Jesse leads upholstery detailing and finish coordination. We also offer material sourcing, CAD-ready collaboration, and prototype reviews to ensure your vision is fully realized.

Yes. We stand behind the craftsmanship and materials used in every First Class project. Most upholstery and restoration work includes a limited service guarantee, covering workmanship and structural integrity for a defined period. Custom builds—such as banquettes, bed frames, or cabinetry—may include extended coverage depending on materials and usage. During your consultation, we’ll outline warranty terms, care recommendations, and what’s covered. If any issue arises post-installation, our team is committed to resolving it promptly and professionally.

Yes. We encourage clients to share reference photos, sketches, mood boards, or even verbal descriptions to help us understand your vision. Whether it’s a Pinterest board, a designer’s concept, or a snapshot of a piece you love, our team will use it as a starting point to develop a tailored solution. We review all submissions during your consultation and translate them into build-ready plans, ensuring the final piece reflects your style, space, and functional needs. Edison oversees structural feasibility, while Jesse helps refine upholstery and finish details

Proper care ensures your restored or custom-built furniture stays beautiful and functional for years to come. We recommend regular dusting with a soft cloth, avoiding direct sunlight, and using coasters or pads to protect surfaces. For upholstered pieces, vacuum gently with a brush attachment and spot-clean using fabric-safe solutions. Leather items benefit from occasional conditioning with approved products. Wood finishes should be cleaned with non-abrasive polish and kept away from moisture. During delivery, our team provides tailored care instructions based on your materials and usage.

Yes. We regularly manage multi-phase and multi-room projects for residential, commercial, and hospitality clients. Whether you're renovating a full home, outfitting a showroom, or staging a rollout across multiple locations, our team will coordinate timelines, logistics, and installation sequencing to ensure smooth execution. We offer flexible scheduling, secure storage between phases, and direct communication with your design or build team.
